Write for us

United Film Journal welcomes pitches for original, well-shaped writing about the spaces, design, objects and customs around cinema. Send proposals through the Contact page; a concise idea with a clear angle is more useful than a finished draft sent without context.

What we are looking for

We consider reported or essayistic pieces that make a focused point about moviegoing, exhibition, film-related design, printed matter, collecting or screen memory. A proposal should stand on its own, avoid repeating familiar generalities and offer readers a detail, distinction or question worth carrying into their next encounter with cinema.

Make the pitch specific

Tell us the working title, central idea, intended reader and likely shape of the piece. Explain what makes the subject a good fit for United Film Journal and how you would handle sources, permissions or uncertainty. If the proposal draws on personal experience, distinguish what you witnessed from what you infer.

Originality and care

Submissions should be original, accurate and written in clear English. Disclose relevant interests or prior publication, and do not include material you do not have permission to share. We cannot promise publication or a response by a particular date.
